Famille Guerin - Moulin a Vent "La Vigne de mon Pere" (2022)
A classic Moulin-a-Vent, darkly fruited, well structured and as satisfying to enjoy with a steak now as it will be to cellar for 4-6 years. There's a nice dose of crunchy black fruit here along with bold notes of black and green peppercorn, tobacco and herb over the stony minerality. From 30-50 year-old vines, there's plenty of concentration but no heaviness at all.
At the end of the Second World War, Robert Guerin, a wine-grower in Chenac sur Gironde, started focusing on the production of Pineau des Charentes. He was one of the pioneers who decided to take an interest in this ancient product (1589), even though its AOC ranking was relatively new (1945).
In 1954, after he had produced 5000 liters of pineau, Robert Guerin went into selling bottles. Born in St Palais sur mer, it seemed obvious to him to start selling his production on the local market in order to introduce this product to vacationers, delivering to his clients riding his Solex moped.
In the early 1960s, Robert Guerin’s children settled down and took over the family business; they developed the company.
On the 1st of May, 1967, they founded the Société Puy Gaudin in partnership with their uncle and three other wine-growers attracted by the idea. This new organization allowed them to increase the value of their production by putting together technical means. During the first year, they produced 200 HL of Pineau.
Today, Robert's grandchildren and even a few of his great-grandchildren, have taken up the torch, a magnificent heritage that they are keen to keep alive. and evolve.
Belonging to the Guérin family means choosing to focus on the common goal beyond personalities. This family is like the Pineau that it manufactures: it has fully understood that it is the assembly of particularities that creates balance, strength and originality. They embrace a philosophy that leaves a place for innovation in all areas: performance of production tools, openness to digital, research on new products, etc., while relying on the know-how, values, and traditions acquired from their parents.
